Celtic coins are, traditionally, mysterious and poorly understood in numismatics. Geoff Cottam, for the first time, has offered Spink over 400 lots spanning over almost all known tribes of the British Iron Age to auction. One of these coins is a rare and stunning gold Quarter Stater of the Atrebates and Regni tribes. This coin was issued under Tincomarcus (20 BCE to 10 CE). The coin depicts Meduca’s face surmounted by great wings and serpents. The king’s abbreviated name ‘Tinc’ is inscribed on the reverse.
